SmS#62: Stone Roses Reunite

20 Oct

For some, the news that Ian Brown and John Squire have buried the hatchet and decided to get the band back together, is reason for celebration. Labled by many as one of britain best bands, responsible for one of the greatest debut albums of all time and so on. It comes as no surprise people are getting themselves all excited, but I just can’t get into it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve spent many (MANY!) hours getting down to the baggy manc beats and count them as one of my favourite bands.

So what’s the problem? Why so glum?

I just can’t help but feel the lure of a lucrative comeback pay-check was the reason for it, not unfinished musical business. With such a perfect debut, an ok second record and the messy split happening 15 years ago, I just feel that The Stone Roses’ legacy doesn’t need a new chapter, and that the “what could’ve been” tag suited the bands short term brilliance perfectly.

So let’s look back at what made them so fucking amazing in the first place. Some things are better left the way they are.

The Stone Roses – Fools Gold

The Stone Roses – Waterfall

The Stone Roses – She Bangs The Drums

The Stone Roses – Elephant Stone
