SmS#59: Peaks Of The Week pt.17

6 Oct

This past week I’ve been decorating, a lot. One of the plus sides of this usually mundane process is the added bonus of being able to listen to BBC 6 Music on my phone. It’s hands down the best radio station I’ve heard. So if you haven’t heard it yet, you’re an indie fan and you have a smart phone give it a listen! Here are some of the gems I’ve been subject to whilst making a mess of the wall-papering!

I’m hooked on the new Bombay Bicycle Club LP.  A Different Kind Of Fix has the north London quartet sounding like a band that has finally discovered its proper sound. It sounds like they have been listening to The Horrors’ Primary Colours record aswell, which is never a bad thing if you ask me! It’s out now, so don’t just take my word for it, check it out yourselves.

Another strong return comes in the form of the ukulele sporting Beirut. The man from New Mexico returns with his third album to great effect. Here’s my album highlight and current single Santa Fe, presumably about his home town. Enjoy the next 4 minutes of his bizarre new video.

Baxter Dury is the son of the late punk/new wave legend Ian Dury. He’s been around for a while now, but to be honest I haven’t heard much of his stuff. That was until BBC 6 Music DJ Tom Ravenscroft dropped this on Monday evening and I loved it. Probably what The Strokes would sound like if they were working class Cockneys! His new ablum Happy Soup is well worth your time. Brilliant!

Up there as one of my favourite bands of all time, Talking Heads are just brilliant aren’t they?! Here’s a forgotten nugget of pure pop gold! You’re garanteed to enjoy yourself whilst listening to this!
