SmS#56: Peaks Of The Week Pt.15

20 Sep

The rain has set in! Seems like it’s been raining for months, but it’s not such a bad thing really. I’ve used the torrid weather conditions as an ample excuse for sitting in with my headphones on checking out this weeks new releases. And I must say, i’ve had a great time doing it! So here’s to this beautiful rain-sodden city!

More looping reverb friendly brilliance from Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox’s solo project Atlas Sound. The man is a bloody genius, a very productive genius at that! Cox is now ready with his third solo LP proper which follows the four “Bedroom Databank” digital releases via his blog earlier this year. He’s also a very generous genius as he proved by giving away all four collections. His blog is also peppered with free tunes he’s recorded on the road or in the comfort of his bedroom (hence the name!). Atlas Sound – Parallax is out on the 7th of November. I for one am extremely excited.

Atlas Sound – Te Amo

Bergen’s favourite son Sondre Lerche is back with his second release from his latest self-titled record. He is set to tour the continent from the 1st of October, including dates in London, Berlin, Copenhagen and here in Bergen on the 21st of October. So make sure you’re there if you’re nearby. He’s also taking the brilliant Young Dreams on tour with him! How nice!

” You’re rarer than a can of dandelion and burdock and those other girls are just post mix lemonade.”

Enough said.

Arctic Monkeys – Suck It And See

The best hip-hop band in the world if you ask me! Here’s another live performance from the amazing Seattle duo Shabazz Palaces. If you haven’t heard their newest LP Black Up then I suggest you take a listen. You won’t regret it! The vid is from Yourstruly and Gorillavsbear. Thanks!

Not only is this a great tune, the video/film that accompanies it is rather good aswell. This trailer is taken from Syndromes, a short film made by Norwegian film-maker Kristoffer Borgli and New York duo The Golden Filter. Borgli has also made music videos for the likes of Young Dreams and Casiokids to brilliant effect. The trailer is sound-tracked by the fantastic Mother by The Golden Filter and the full film is out on the 10th of October.
