SmS#43: Peaks Of The Week Pt.10

6 Aug

The summer is coming to a close, sad but true. It has well and truely flown by, which is usually the case when it’s so much damn fun! Not to worry, here are some of my highlights from my last week in England to help nurse those post-holiday heartaches! Enjoy!

If you can see past the strange band name, Denver’s Gauntlet Hair are really something. The lo-fi, avant-pop duo are almost ready with their debut album, which is going to be amazing if it contains more tracks like this and like last years brilliant ‘I Was Thinking’  single. Their self-titled debut album is set for release on the 17th of October. Can’t wait!

Gauntlet Hair – Top Bunk

This is one of the best tracks taken from one of 2011’s very best albums, Underneath The Pines by Toro Y Moi. South Carolina’s chillwave whizz-kid Chaz Bundick amazed us with him debut in 2010, but I must say I think his newest effort is a huge step forward. The video is super cool too!

Toro Y Moi – How I Know (directed by Jordan Kim)

This is probably the 128th time Wild Beasts have been mentioned on the pages of SmS, but I just can’t help myself, the boys from Kendal are too good! Here is another track from the wonderful LP Smother , of with was recently over-looked for a Mercury Music Prize nomination. Scandalous!

Wild Beasts – Bed Of Nails (directed by Daniel Brereton)

And finally, San Francisco’s Girls are back with this charmingly titled cut which showcases how perfectly Christopher Owens’ vunerable vocals and acid fried guitar solos go together!  This excellent track will feature on the bands new LP Father, Son and Holy Ghost, which is due in the shops on the 13th of September. Write it in your diaries folks, this band just keep getting better. If that’s at all possible!

Girls – Vomit
