SmS#23: Peaks Of The Week Pt.4

31 May

Tom Vek makes his return after a six year hiatus with the brilliant A Chore. Expect more good things from the London born multi-instrumentalists forthcoming album Leisure Seizure out on the 6th of June.

Tom Vek – A Chore

Bergen Prog trio Ungdomskulen have been setting about making an album of ten songs that lasts ten minutes(ish) in total. A good concept if you ask me. Here are two of the many highlights from the Gimme Ten record. Short, sharp and sure worth a listen.

Ungdomskulen – Tears Of Joy

Ungdomskulen – Take It Back

Well, last Friday we lost one of the most influential men in music. Gil Scott-Heron was a poet and a musician who sampled jazz, soul, funk, spoken word and blues in a career that spanned over 40 years. The man was widely known as the founder of rap. He made his comeback last year with the highly acclaimed LP, I’m New Here. To be honest, I wasn’t very familiar with his work until I heard last year’s album and the remix of the record by Jamie xx, and I was simply blown away. The song i’ve chose to post Me And The Devil is both brilliant and eerily relevant.

It’s a big loss. R.I.P Gil Scott-Heron.
